where & when
Composite fillings are tooth coloured fillings used to restore cavities in teeth. Traditionally these were used on front teeth only with amalgam fillings being the mainstay of treatments involving the biting surfaces of premolars and molars. Composite fillings to restore these surfaces are considered cosmetic and can be provided on a private treatment basis.
The main advantage of composite fillings in addition to their cosmetic qualities is that they are bonded directly onto the tooth requiring less tooth preparation as compared to that for amalgam restorations, preserving more natural tooth structure.
Composite fillings can be contoured into the natural shape of the tooth and provide the same durability and strength as amalgam (silver) fillings.
Prices : from £70 to £120 depending on the tooth surfaces involved.
